You’re Not the Only One Asking These Skin Questions

I recently asked two simple questions at a recent event: What brings you to a dermatologist, and what’s been most challenging about caring for your skin?
As I read through the responses, one thing that stood out immediately is that you are not alone in what you’re wondering.
Many of you shared concerns about acne, dark spots and hyperpigmentation, hair or scalp changes, rashes, and simply wanting healthy skin. Others said their biggest struggles are knowing what actually works, how to stay consistent, and whether something is medical or cosmetic.
If you’ve ever felt unsure about:
• Which products or treatments are worth your time
• Whether your concern is “serious enough” to see a dermatologist
• How to stay consistent when life is busy
• Or whether a dermatologist will truly understand your concerns
I want you to know: these are some of the most common questions I hear.
Here’s the reassurance piece I don’t want you to miss:
Feeling uncertain is normal.
Dermatology can feel overwhelming because there’s so much information online and so much of it is conflicting. My role as a board-certified dermatologist isn’t just to treat conditions, but to help you understand why your skin is behaving the way it is and what actually makes sense for you. Education is often the missing link between frustration and progress.
Over the coming weeks, I’ll be breaking down:
• Common skin and hair concerns in clear, practical language
• How to tell when something is medical vs cosmetic
• What consistency really looks like (and how to make it realistic)
• How virtual and in-person care can work for your life
If this survey showed me anything, it’s this:
You’re asking the right questions. You need clearer answers.
If you’re ready to learn more or want guidance tailored to you, you’re always welcome to explore care options or educational resources with me.
You’re not alone in this.
